This is a six-week basic drawing course for beginners and intermediate beginners, teen to adult. How do you create the illusion of 3-dimensional objects in space onto a flat piece of paper? Not by magic, but by learning to see. In this short course, we will explore the basic elements that go into a drawing: line and contour, perspective, and value (range of light to dark) with still life, landscape and portrait exercises. We will look at different examples of masters' drawings and discuss various approaches of style, technique and media. Students will also be encouraged to carry a sketchbook and to draw frequently. Pre-registration is encouraged because space is limited. The class will be cancelled if the minimum is not met.

Melting glass, also known as the ancient art of kiln forming, is fun and addictive! This fast-paced class will give students a chance to explore kiln-fired glass and many of the techniques that make melting glass so exciting.
In the first class, students will learn how to fuse dichroic* glass into one large block. In the second class, they will cut and shape their blocks. The glass will then be fired a second time to fire polish and melt the glass into finished pieces. Students will complete eight dichroic pendants and one pair of earrings, working with clear and black dichroic glass.
Students need to be ready to work hard AND have fun. Topics that will be covered are glass technology, safety, cutting glass, equipment, resources and creative directions.
Due to the time it takes to complete the steps, finished pieces will be available for pickup at the Artistic Roots gallery a week later.
Pre-registration is encouraged because class will be cancelled if minimum is not met.
*Dichroic glass has metal or oxides that give it unique reflective qualities that make it seem like it’s changing color
